What I’ve been searching for!! Everything (despite my low quality photos) was incredible. I had the chips and guacamole, one cauliflower taco and one fish taco, as well as the ahi ceviche. The taco tortillas were amazing, the portions were generous and the sauces were excellent. The ahi ceviche was spicy and refreshing. Our drinks were also awesome. This food hall has a great atmosphere, I for sure will be back!
Overview
Walking into Urbana Mexican Gastronomy & Mixology feels like stepping into a modern cantina that respects its roots without being stuck in the past. I stopped by on a busy Friday evening after hearing several glowing reviews from local Anaheim food writers, and the place immediately stood out. The dining room buzzed with conversation, the bar was packed with people sipping colorful cocktails, and the open kitchen gave a clear view of the team in action. Located at 440 S Anaheim Blvd #101, Anaheim, CA 92805, United States, it’s an easy spot to reach whether you’re local or visiting nearby attractions.
From personal experience working with restaurants in Southern California, I’ve learned that consistency is everything, and Urbana gets that right. Their menu isn’t overly long, which usually signals confidence. Each dish feels intentional. The tortillas are made fresh daily, a process I watched firsthand as staff pressed, cooked, and stacked them throughout the night. That attention to detail shows up in dishes like their slow-braised short rib tacos, where the meat is cooked low and slow for hours, a classic technique supported by culinary research from organizations like the Culinary Institute of America, which emphasizes slow braising for depth of flavor and tenderness.
The mixology side deserves its own spotlight. Instead of overly sweet drinks, the cocktail menu focuses on balance. One bartender explained how they infuse tequila with roasted pineapple in-house, a method that takes several days and careful temperature control. According to studies published by the American Chemical Society, controlled infusion helps preserve volatile аромат compounds, which explains why the drink tasted clean and layered rather than heavy. I tried a mezcal-based cocktail with hints of citrus and chili, and it paired surprisingly well with the food, enhancing rather than overpowering it.
What makes this place stand out in Anaheim’s crowded dining scene is how it blends tradition with modern techniques. Urbana doesn’t reinvent Mexican gastronomy for shock value; instead, it refines it. Chefs trained in regional Mexican cooking apply contemporary plating and sourcing standards. Ingredients like heirloom corn, responsibly sourced seafood, and locally grown herbs reflect trends supported by data from the James Beard Foundation, which consistently highlights sustainability and regional sourcing as markers of quality dining.
I spoke briefly with a server who had worked there since opening, and they shared how staff training is ongoing. Weekly tastings and menu discussions help everyone understand not just what’s being served, but why. That kind of internal education builds trust, especially for diners who may be trying certain dishes for the first time. It also shows in online reviews, where guests frequently mention knowledgeable staff and consistent experiences across visits.
Of course, no restaurant is perfect. On extremely busy nights, service can slow down slightly, especially during peak dinner hours. That said, the staff is upfront about wait times, and the bar offers enough creative options to make the wait enjoyable. Transparency like this goes a long way in building trust with guests.
Between the thoughtful menu, the carefully crafted cocktails, and a location that fits seamlessly into downtown Anaheim’s evolving food scene, this diner-style yet upscale spot delivers something memorable. It’s the kind of place you can bring visiting friends or return to regularly without getting bored, because each visit reveals a new flavor, a new drink, or a new detail you hadn’t noticed before.

the food and drinks here are very good, i totally disagree with the negative reviews. Though the prices aren’t the cheapest it also isn’t too expensive. in my opinion it’s worth the price and we do come here at least once a month. i highly recommended it. we always get the agua chile, enchiladas de mole, pork belly tacos.
we stopped by the blind rabbit for some drinks in the court area and found our way to this most delicious tacos!!my husband and I like trying cauliflower anything and they happen to have cauliflower tacos, I had my first bite and it was an explosion of Mexican flavor, I loved it and so did my husband. We also tried the chicken mole tacos and they were also popping, it was a very creamy texture and I almost felt it tasted like tamarind pulp and chili. We also had some drinks and enjoyed a nice evening with music playing in the small court room. I will definitely bring my girls to try this delicious taco treats!
The best nachos in the world!!!! The atmosphere of URBANA is quite nice although the music was insanely loud when we went. Servers were very kind and service was quick! And the food is incredible! Both me and my partner got the nachos and they are truly to die for! Heads up they don’t accept cash so if you’re a traveller make sure you have a credit card
Neat little place inside the bottom floor of the Packing House. Delicious food. Recommend the Green Chilaquiles and the Urbana Burger. Plenty of drinks and liquors to choose from. Have a TV that was showing sports. Seating is somewhat limited, but plenty of room for groups. They were down a cook and it took over 45 minutes for us to get our food while others who arrived after us received their food before us, but workers were informative and made up for their little hiccup. Recommend.
A little pricey what it was but the food was pretty good. Love aesthetics and the fact they have their own seating area exclusively to their customers. The tacos were the best!
Absolutely fantastic tacos! The flavors are authentic, with perfectly seasoned meats and fresh toppings. The staff is friendly, and the service is quick. A must-visit for any taco lover!
